Brewing news Australia: Coopers sales soar in heat wave

Adelaide’s recent heat wave has had a beneficial impact on Coopers Brewery, which has recorded a significant boost in sales.

Coopers Chairman and Marketing Director, Mr Glenn Cooper, said that Monday’s sales figures had been about 50% higher than normal with around 30,000 cartons leaving the brewery during the day as retailers sought to replace stock purchased by thirsty consumers over the weekend.
Orders for kegs had also been significantly higher than normal.

“The early indications are that today’s sales will also be well above normal as retailers and consumers gear up for further hot weather on Australia Day,” he said.

Mr Cooper said that hot weather traditionally generated increased sales.

“There is no doubt that when the temperature rises, people like to socialise around the pool or relax in front of the air conditioner with a beer,” he said.

“There’s also no doubt that the saying the first beer doesn’t touch the sides is particularly relevant once the mercury rises over about 35 degrees.”

Mr Cooper said Coopers planned for sudden spikes in demand caused by bursts of hot weather when scheduling its brewing program at this time of the year.

“We normally hold higher reserves in our warehouse over summer to ensure that we don’t get caught out by a sudden increase in demand – either in South Australia or interstate,” he said.

“Coopers drinkers can be assured that they will always be able to get stocks of their favourite brew, no matter how hot the weather gets.”
